Origin PDF Print

The United States – Mexico Foundation for Science (FUMEC) was created at the end of 1992 to promote bi-national collaboration in science and technology both countries having as a key figure to Congressman H George E. Brown, Jr.

The main purpose of the Foundation is to serve as an articulator of institutional efforts to enable scientific collaboration that could impact the solution of problems and the search for new opportunities in priority areas for Mexico and the U.S. This mandate has given FUMEC several distinguishing characteristics, such as: an opportunities identifier, flexible in the way it operates, focused on creating synergies, and results oriented.

FUMEC experience has been remarking the importance of concentrating in high-importance topics, going after middle and long-term results. This commonly depends o the scientific and technological advances, the capability to integrate programs of common interest for Mexico and The United States and the creation of alliances with other countries to reach opportunities.

Endowment PDF Print

The income from the Endowment serves as seed money and as a catalyst for programs that, once deemed viable, can seek funding from major public and private donors.

Endowment

The Foundation supports and promotes the development and implementation of projects within guidelines approved by the Board of Governors. FUMEC offers support in developing proposals and, together with participating institutions, helps to identify financial and human resources for the implementation of specific projects.

In order to build collaborative relationships between all stakeholders of a given project, the Foundation also facilitates communication with potential beneficiaries at the local level. These beneficiaries might include local leaders, community members or organizations that are able to promote the application of specific solutions.

Biennial Report PDF Print

Every two years the Foundation publishes a report with the achievements made in its working areas. The exercise to report FUMEC’s results is a commitment to systematically evaluate if we are fulfilling our fulfilling mission.
