The United States – Mexico Foundation for Science (FUMEC) was created at the end of 1992 to promote bi-national collaboration in science and technology both countries having as a key figure to Congressman H George E. Brown, Jr. The main purpose of the Foundation is to serve as an articulator of institutional efforts to enable scientific collaboration that could impact the solution of problems and the search for new opportunities in priority areas for Mexico and the U.S. This mandate has given FUMEC several distinguishing characteristics, such as: an opportunities identifier, flexible in the way it operates, focused on creating synergies, and results oriented. FUMEC experience has been remarking the importance of concentrating in high-importance topics, going after middle and long-term results. This commonly depends o the scientific and technological advances, the capability to integrate programs of common interest for Mexico and The United States and the creation of alliances with other countries to reach opportunities. | Congressman George E.
